3/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup butter or margarine -- softened
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons grated orange peel
1/4 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
Pecan halves
Cream first 3 ingredients. Beat in eggs.
Slowly beat in buttermilk, peel, juice and vanilla.
Stir together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Blend into batter.
Stir in chopped pecans.
Drop from teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Place pecan half on each
cookie.
Bake at 350ºF about 15 minutes.
