GOITRE
Goitre refers to a swelling of the thyroid gland in the neck. Women are more prone to this disease than men. Change of Diet: One who is inflicted with goitre should consume plenty of the following foods: Old rice, barley, moong dal, patola, drumstick, cucumber, sugarcane, juice, milk and milk products. Also, one should refrain from heavy foods such as meats or breads that are more difficult to swallow, and will cause pain.
Also, beverages such as coffee, alcoholic drinks, and sodas should be avoided, as well as foods with excess salt and sugar in them. Fruits and Milk Diet: After the juice fast, the patient may spend the next three days on fruits and milk, taking three meals a day of juicy fruits with a glass of milk, at five hourly intervals.
Food to avoid during Goitre: Certain foods and fluids are extremely injurious for goitre patients and should be avoided by them. These include white flour products, white sugar, flesh foods, fried or greasy foods, preserves, condiments, tea, coffee, and alcohol.
Other Goitre Treatment: Rest and bowel cleansing with lukewarm water. For the first five days of the treatment the bowels should be cleansed daily with lukewarm water. The patient should take plenty of rest and spend a day in bed every week for the first two months of the treatment. More and more physical exercise should be taken after the symptoms subside.
Ayurvedic Medicines for Goitre: Kanchanara Guggulu: This tablet is given in doses of four three times daily with mild or warm water. Also, kanchanara comes in a tree bark form that is given in the form of a dedoction. This second form of kanchanara is applied in 30 ML does on an empty stomach.
