Vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage are good for the heart

From childhood, we have been told to eat our vegetables; in today's world, with this fast paced life, the temptation to eat junk food is pretty high. Junk food such as chips, burgers, pizzas, fries, etc present an excellent taste to the human palate, and give a good feeling; however, they are certainly not good for the human health, and can contribute to diseases such as diabetes, high Blood Pressure and heart problems. What is the solution ? The solution is to back to the cooked food that you have been told to eat, and eat stuff such as broccole, cabbage, and other green vegetables in the recommended quantities. These are good for your heart, and prevent the build up inside arteries that can cause heart attacks (link to article):

Here’s why broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are good for the heart – a chemical found in these vegetables can boost a natural defence mechanism to protect arteries from disease. The Imperial College London team has shown that a protein that usually protects against plaque build up called Nrf2 is inactive in areas of arteries that are prone to disease.
Treatment with a chemical found in green "brassica" vegetables such as broccoli can activate Nrf2 in these disease-prone regions. "Sulforaphane is found naturally in broccoli, so our next steps include testing whether simply eating broccoli, or other vegetables in their ''family'', has the same protective effect.

There is ongoing research going on in this area, but if the scientists can conclusively show that eating vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage is good for the heart, then it is easier to popularize the consumption of such vegetables.
