Belkin BG108000-04 Conserve Energy Saving Surge Strip

Going green has never been easier. With the Belkin 8-Outlet Conserve Surge Protector, you can eliminate the wasteful standby power that many of your home appliances generate, lowering your overall energy consumption and saving you money on energy costs. Featuring a convenient remote control, the Conserve Surge Protector gives you the option of completely shutting off devices that consume standby power without having to reach behind furniture or beneath desks.
tandby power--also known as "phantom power"--is the energy that devices consume while they are still plugged into a power outlet, even while the device is turned off. This wasteful "phantom power" is generated by TVs, computers, computer accessories, battery chargers, and many other electronic devices.
Although the devices are not actually doing anything, they are still sipping energy. And not just minuscule amounts--the California Energy Commission estimates that as much as 15% of household electricity use can be attributed to standby power loss!

Belkin BG108000-04 Conserve Energy Saving Surge Strip

The Conserve offers a total of eight surge-protected outlets, six of which are "switchable" and two that are "always-on." This means that you can connect up to six devices that can be controlled by the remote, and two devices that will always stay on. The "always-on" outlets are useful for devices that require a constant flow of energy, such as routers, alarm clocks, cable modems, or DVRs.

Technical Details:
Surge protector includes remote control to easily turn off power and save energy
Six switchable and two always-on power outlets
Built-in cord management; wall-mountable remote control
Slim, space-saving design
Backed by lifetime product and $100,000 connected equipment warranty

Customer feedback:

1. Excellent product, push the remote transmitter button and the surge protector switches off. Push it again and the surge protecter turns on. Will definitely save electricity by cutting power to devices that are always on standby.
Only problem with the unit I received was that initially the remote switch would not turn the surge protector on. I thought that I might have to return it, until I checked the frequency settings for the remote switch and the surge protector. Switched them to match and the unit worked like a charm. It seems that the factory set settings did not match.

2. So I got one of these and within the first month I saw a $50 reduction in my power bill. Seriously! It all started after I got a power meter and started going crazy to find what was sucking power around my house. My power bills where at 100+ and it wasn't making any since. So I started measuring and found out that my entertainment center was eating 80 - 85 Watts of power when it was OFF! Now everything I have didn't exactly cut off and turns out my Sharp Aquos was eating the most power off.

Quick Tech Tip: Wireless Networks

The wireless communication revolution is bringing fundamental changes to data networking, telecommunication, and is making integrated networks a reality. By freeing the user from the cord, new systems (personal communications networks, wireless LAN's, mobile radio networks and cellular systems, etc), harbor the promise of fully distributed mobile computing and communications, in a new paradigm of any time, anywhere.
A wireless network allows you to connect your computer to a network using radio waves instead of wires. As long as you are within range of a wireless access point, you can move your computer from place to place while maintaining un-ethered access to networked resources. This can make networking extremely portable.
Wireless networks are of great value to fleets of trucks, taxis, buses and repair persons for keeping in contact with home. Another use is for rescue workers at disaster sites where the telephone system has been destroyed such as in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Wireless networks are very important to the military.
Some wireless data networks run over wireless voice networks, such as mobile telephone networks (CPDP, HSCSD, PDC-P, and GPRS are examples). Other wireless networks run on their own physical layer networks, utilizing anything from antennas built into handlheld devices to large antennas mounted on towers. 802.11, LMDS, and MMDS are examples.
A few wireless networks are intended only to connect small devices over short distances. Bluetooth is an example.
Wireless LANs are networks are set up to provide wireless connectivity within a finite coverage area. Typical coverage areas might be a hospital (for patient care systems), a university, the airport, or a gas plant. They usually have a well-known audience in mind.
Wireless Personal Area Networking (WPAN) describes an application of wireless technology that is intended to address usage scenarios that are inherently personal in nature. The emphasis is on instant connectivity between devices that manage personal data or which facilitate data sharing between small groups of individuals.

Linksys WRT160N Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router

The Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there s the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There s also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology: Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.
With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds far faster than standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band.

Linksys WRT160N Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router
To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.
The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at incredible speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires.

Technical Details
* Internet-sharing Router and 4-port Switch, with a built in speed and range enhanced Wireless Access Point.
* MIMO technology uses multiple radios to create a robust signal that travels farther and reduces dead spots.
* Much faster than Wireless-G, but also works great with Wireless-G and -B devices.
* Wireless signals protected by wireless encryption, and your network protected from Internet attacks by a powerful SPI firewall.

Opteka RC-4 Wireless Remote Control for Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, XTi, XSi, & T1i Digital SLR (Canon RC-1 Replacement)

Customer feedback:

1. I just got this remote control a few days back, and so far I am pretty satisfied with it. The shipment was prompt and it arrived even faster than some of the Amazon's own products. I am using it with Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi. I chose it over some alternative products due to its compact size, and that comes in handy when lugging around a whole bunch of camera add-ons.
Since it seems that a lot of people are having problems with the instructions that came with this item, I decided to post a simple set-up procedure that worked for me:
- Turn on the camera.
- Press the "Drive mode" menu button. This is the same button as the left arrow on my camera.
- Toggle between different setting using left and right arrow.
- Make sure that the "Self-timer/Remote control" option is highlighted.
- Press set button.
- You are ready to roll. Point the remote to the camera (from the front of the camera) and press either the upper "S" (for immediate shooting) or "2S" (for 2s delayed shooting) buttons.

2. The remote is handy, small and it does what it is supposed to do. It looks quite good I might say and I am very happy I took this instead of canon original. For this kind of simple products (not high-tech) it is not worth paying for the brand. After setting the camera in the "remote mode" then press S/2S and you'll get the picture.

Canon Wireless Remote Control RC1 for Digital Rebel

The Canon RC-1 remote control makes taking group photos easy by allowing you to take pictures away from the camera. The RC-1 allows the selection of either a 2-second shutter delay or instant shutter release. Compatible with the Canon EOS Elan II/Elan IIe, EOS Elan, EOS 10S, and EOS IX.

Technical Details:
Allows for shutter release up to 16 feet
Wireless camera operation
2-second shutter release delay
Works with some Canon EOS models
Makes group photos easy

Canon Wireless Remote Control RC1 for Digital Rebel

Customer feedback:

1. This remote uses a small infrared transmitter to trip the shutter of many of the EOS line of cameras (EOS 10, Elan, Elan II/IIE, EOS IX and possibly others). I bought one 5 or 6 years ago and I haven't had to change the battery yet. Unlike wired remote shutter releases, the RC1 doesn't require the user to set anything up -- just point the remote at the camera front and press the button. The RC1 clips onto a holder that can be threaded through your camera strap so it's always nearby when needed. It measures (inches) 2.25 x 1 x .5 (length x width x height) and weighs not much more than one ounce.
The RC1 as two controls on it: a small slider switch and a larger button to trip the shutter. If you're wearing gloves, the slider switch is near impossible to adjust but the shutter button is easy to hit. The slider offers three settings: Lock (disables the shutter button), regular and 2-second delay. The regular setting works just like the shutter release on your camera although you can't press it halfway to autofocus. The 2-second delay locks up the mirror when you hit the shutter button and then trips the shutter 2 seconds later. This is very useful for longer exposures or shooting with telephoto lenses.

2. received this product a day ago and am happy with it. It's simple and reliably does what it's supposed to do. I bought it primarily for 'bulb' exposures [with my D-Rebel], but, of course, it is also useful when you want to avoid camera shake or to get yourself into the shot.
As others have noted, it is extremely light (15g) and tiny. Those reasons are why I picked this remote over the RC-5 and RS-60E3. Also, there is a camera strap clip included, so it will be quickly available. Canon is even kind enough to include batteries. This is definitely the one to buy.

This Kensington presenter also features fingertip control for easy use, and offers the simplicity and convenience of plug-and-play performance. Kensington 33374 Wireless Presenter with Laser Pointer

Technical Details:
Compact wireless presenter with an ergonomic design and easy fingertip control, and a bright, easy-to-see laser pointer
2.4GHz wireless technology delivers interference-free control of your pointer from up to 60 feet away
Wireless USB receiver fits inside controller's storage space so it never gets lost
Comes with Kensington's one-year warranty
Runs on two AAA batteries, and measures 1.75 x 0.75 x 4 inches

Customer feedback:

1. The USB transmitter that plugs into the computer is nearly half the size in the new version, which is nice, given the bulky size of the previous version.
The device now runs on AAA batteries instead of a smaller, disc-type battery. This is nice, since you had to go to a store to pick up replacement batteries for the old version.

2. I've compared about 5 or 6 presenters in actual use for a corporate application. All work well and get the job done. This one worked flawlessly -- plugs in, recognized by pc, and buttons are working immediately. The functionality is limited to 4 buttons though and a laser, which is fine for basic needs. If that's all you need (forward, back, stop, laser), then this is a good choice. I prefer the Logitech for the added convenience of having a volume control and timer, but if those features aren't important, this is an equally good unit.

Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel

This racing wheel was built from the ground up by industry professionals with input by those who brought you Forza and Project Gotham Racing. Featuring technology in rumble and Force Feedback response, the wheel simulates a spectrum of driving sensations from drifting to powersliding. In addition to realism, you will be using Xbox 360 2.4 GHz wireless technology with ranges of up to 30’.

Features:

* Force Feedback technology
* Customize your driving experience using either the quick release mount for table play or the slip resistant rubber bottom for more secure lap play
* Formula 1 style paddle shifters
* Realistically weighted gas and brake pedals
* Works with your Windows PC with the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver (Sold Separately)

Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel

Customer feedback:

1. This wheel is a blast! I was already addicted to Forza 2 and was moving steadily up in my career with the regular game controller. With this racing wheel (and pedals), I'm moving up even faster than before and the experience is dizzying - literally. I have my setup about 3 feet from a 50" plasma and the feedback of the wheel is so realistic that I was getting odd dizzy effects when going in and out of tight corners because my body was expecting to feel real world forces from the seat against my back and sides - and they of course were missing. Make no mistake, this isn't a bad thing - its a testament to the realistic feedback of the wheel. You feel everything - understeer, oversteer, grass, jerks when flying from grass back onto the pavement.
Prior to this wheel, I always detested driving the big American cars like the Camero or Corvette because they were so difficult to control with the normal controller - they would constantly slide out and wag back and forth because there was no feel. Last night I nailed several races with both these cars because I was finally able to control the car through power slides and oversteers.

2. Pros:
Top notch feel and finish, no corners cut on cheap plastic or details.
Works right out of the box. No drivers to fumble with.
Feedback (while connected to power source) is excellent.
Clamping system is easy to understand and use.
Doesn't tie up a spot on your Xbox USB ports.

Cons:
Minor- you need to find the right table/surface to mount this on. It is heavy!
Minor- clamping system is excellent, however, after a long race it may move and need readjusting.

Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote

Product Features

* The Xbox 360 supports progressive-scan for DVD playback functionality, including a control for opening and closing the tray
* The remote supports universal TV and console functionality, including volume and mute buttons and up-and-down channel changing

Customer feedback:

A) This remote is PERFECT if...

1. You would like one, easy-to-use remote to control both basic TV and an Xbox 360 that doubles as your DVD player.
2. The only buttons you would need for the TV are: Channels, Volume (TV speaker/output control only), Numerical channel input, Muting, *INTPUT SELECTION* (yes, it CAN switch between your TV's inputs), Return (to toggle between 2 TV channels), and Power.
3. You do not need specialized/advanced buttons found on a OEM remote or advanced learning remote for the TV.
4. You do not need to control a A/V receiver, DVD player (other than XBOX 360), or a digital cable box (Tivo, DVR, etc.)
5. You are on a budget but would still like a quality remote.

If you can say yes to all or most, then don't hesitate to grab one of these remotes. You will be completely satisfied. Especially with immediate access to the tactile DVD buttons versus the 360's annoying on-screen DVD navigation.

B) If you use your XBox 360 to watch DVDs, I definitely recommend taking look at this remote. It makes moving through your DVD easy and "normal". Yes, you can use the standard controller to access the DVD menu items - but it's a royal pain to move through the various menus and sub-menus to get to some of the items. Also, it's not very intuitive for non gamers to page through to the items.
In comparison, this controller is incredible easy. it looks like and acts like any other TV remove. You have the standard buttons that everybody knows how to use - play, pause, fast forward, rewind. If someone walks into the room, you don't have to page through a menu quickly - you just hit the pause button. The controller is a nice size, too - large, easy to use buttons.

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller

The Xbox 360 Black Wireless Controller gives you 30 feet of room to play your favorite games. You'll get up to 40 hours of gameplay from two standard AA batteries -- or connect a Play & Charge cable for uninterrupted play. Vibration Control with On/Off settings Xbox Guide Button gives you quick access to all your favorite Xbox 360 system activities

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller

Product Features

* 30-foot wireless range
* Integrated 2.4GHz high-performance wireless technology
* Ergonomic design enables maximum comfort and endless gameplay
* Left and right shoulder buttons
* Two Analog pressure-point triggers, two vibration feedback motors, eight-way directional pad are included

Customer feedback:

1. If you've got an XBox 360, you really need to get your hand on one or two wireless controllers. These controllers are GREAT for keeping your gaming area free of clutter. To start with, the controller is much smaller than the standard XBox controller was. For control items, you start with the standard blue X, yellow Y, red B and green A buttons. There are two thumbsticks, one on the upper left and one in the center right. There is also a directional (d-pad) in the lower left.
Next, you have a pair of shoulder buttons at the "top" of the unit, up above the other buttons. You also have a pair of triggers below those shoulder buttons. Finally, you have a center X button that can be used to turn the console on and off, plus a "start" and "back" tiny white buttons on either side of it.

2. Ok, so this is basically just the white controller painted black. To be honest, the white controllers don't look too bad, its the white console that looks terrible. But that is my opinion. On to the facts. The black controller is almost exactly the same, but part of the grip is more "matte" than the white one. The white controller always makes me sweat for some reason because it is too smooth. These look great however. The colors are well matched even though it may not look like it in the pictures. I'd definitely recommend picking these up if you have an elite, or if you have core/premium and you want the black ones so the grime doesn't show as much, I'd highly recommend these.

* Powered seamlessly by your Xbox 360 gaming console, so there's no external power adapter to plug in
* You can transfer high-definition video and CD-quality music from your Media Center PC to your Xbox 360 via 802.11a wireless media support

Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter

Customer feedback:

1. To install, you simply insert the USB plug into the USB port on the backside of the Xbox 360. This Network adapter snaps into place so it never moves and the cable is just long enough preventing clutter. A very intelligent design. Software set up was a breeze. In my situation, it was automatic after a few menu selections. I did have a concern that there would be a problem because I am using an Apple Airport. But, no problems at all.
Also, the range I receive is better than what others have mentioned here. I live in a two story house. My Airport (wireless hub) is located on the east side of the second floor, in a book case next to the outer wall. My Xbox 360 is located in an outer corner of the den on the first floor on the west side of the house. Basically, the signal is going from upstairs to downstairs and from one side of the house to the other. I was actually surprised that it worked without me having to rearrange either room.

2. I was using a basic Linksys wireless game adapter with my 360, and it worked fine. However, it needed to be connected to a PC for firmware updates (making it impossible for Mac users), and was generally more difficult to set up than the "official" adapter from Microsoft.
I ended up getting this adapter on sale, and setting it up was a snap. It gets decent throughput, and saves some energy over an external adapter, because it only uses power when you have the Xbox 360 on. It was also nice to see that this supports WPA networks. If your time is valuable to you, this is probably worth the extra few dollars over similar products. You just snap it on, enter your network's password, and you're off.
