Gears of War 2

The wait is over, Gears of War 2 has arrived. Ever since the original was released, fans have clamored for this sequel. Developed exclusively for the Xbox 360 by Epic Games, Gears of War 2, which has already garnered several awards, picks up six months after the events of the blockbuster original Gears of War. Players are thrown back into the role of Marcus Fenix, leading the battle for humankind's survival against the Locust Horde. With innovative third-person tactical action gameplay and unsurpassed high-definition graphics, Gears of War 2 is a must-have game for the Xbox 360.

Product Features:
* Award-winning sequel picks up six months after the events of the blockbuster original.
* Innovative third-person tactical action gameplay; Xbox LIVE delivers online multiplayer (up to 10 simultaneous players) and cooperative action.
* Unreal Engine 3 delivers jaw-dropping graphics; new effects include ambient occlusion, dynamic shadows, advanced destructible environments, and more.
* Winner of several awards at E3 2008, including Overall Best Shooting Game, Overall Best Graphics Technology, and Best Action Game.
* Original cast of characters returns, including Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, as well as several newcomers.

Gears of War 2

HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Huge Environments, Bigger Gameplay.
2. Jaw-Dropping, Realistic Graphics.
3. Immersive, Gripping Story.
4. More Characters, Upgraded Vehicles, Badder Weapons.
5. Multiplayer Action with Xbox LIVE!

Players:
Offline: 1-4
Online: 10
Gameplay Modes:
Single player, competitive multiplayer, cooperative multiplayer, system link multiplayer, online multiplayer with voice support.
Format:
16:9 Widescreen on HDTV 480p, 720p, and 1080i.

PROS: This is all about game play and the feel of the game. Even on top of all the additional features and improvements, it is still undoubtedly Gears of War. The controls remain very intuitive and easy to learn. It's easily one of the best 3rd person shooters out there.
CONS:Storyline could have been a lot deeper. May be they are saving this for Gears of War 3. Violence may be a little too much for the unprepared.

FINAL VERDICT: A. This is a very well-made game. I have the tendency to buy games and sell them back when I'm done. But I think GoW 2 will probably be a mainstay in my library.

Franklin SDU-320 Sudoku Puzzle

The Franklin SDU-320 Sudoku Puzzle provides millions of Sudoku puzzles, the game that has swept the nation. Sudoku is a game similar to a crossword puzzle that uses numbers instead of letters. No math is required and the game is simple to learn; anyone can pick it up and start.
This handheld device features a touchscreen display and a stylus, for easy input. Millions of computer generated puzzles are included. Additionally, there are also handcrafted puzzles by experts that enrich the experience by creating interesting solution processes for the puzzle enthusiast. You can choose from three different skill levels, and the device also features a puzzle builder and solver. The Franklin SDU-320 Sudoku Puzzle requires two G13 batteries (included).

Franklin SDU-320 Sudoku Puzzle

Technical Details:
- Electronic device will carry millions of Sudoku puzzles in your pocket
- Touchscreen display and stylus for easy input
- Three skill levels
- Includes handcrafted puzzles by experts, for enriched puzzle experience
- Measures 4.3 x 0.86 x 3.15 inches (WxHxD)

Customer feedback:

1. I did a lot of research before buying an electronic version and this game and this one seems to be the best one. Other than no backlight, which I don't really care about anyway, this one is great. The game is all controlled with the stylus. Just touch the empty slot with the stylus and touch the number you want in the slot. It's that simple. It has three levels of play with an endless supply of computer generated puzzles. It even has 400 pregenerated unique puzzles. And an added bonus is that you can take a puzzle from a newspaper or some other source and enter it into the game to solve electronically.

2. This particular unit has been around awhile (I also have one from London branded "number puzzle"), now rebranded by Franklin for an American release.
First, there is no backlight.
Second, some of the puzzles end where two answers are both correct, which drives some Sudoku purists nuts.
But these are the Only drawbacks.
The unit fits well in the hand, and is easy to use. You can put in your own puzzles, pause, Undo, and toggle sound.
I cannot imagine having a Sudoku handheld game whose screen isn't fully a touchpad, and which doesn't have the ability to put in puzzles from your favorite source! And I can't imagine I'm the only one either!

Illuminated Mega Sudoku Puzzle Game

Customer feedback:

1. Have owned this item for over 2 years. It has had no wierd functioning problems; when the buttons don't seem to do the pause or input , it is time to change the batteries! mine has worked very well and i have tried them all! i even refuse to use the other 3 kinds that i own. this one is perfect. i can use it at night, i can turn off the sound, and it has the biggest screen that i have seen which is nice when one is older. One review said that they did not like the fact that it was awkward trying to input all number options before one knew what the number was and altho i agree, that is just how it is with the electronic games, one gets used to it! i would much rather use this and not the books with the pencil and the light. this comes with its own light and stylus and it is easy to just grab it at night and play it till your eyes get bleary and then go to sleep.. mine worked fine after a couple years but the screen got a little scratched from abuse and i misplaced it... i can't get to sleep without this toy.! I had to but another one! Definately the best one that i have tried on the market.

2. I have had this product for well over 2 years. I have dropped it, gone through multiple batteries, and I love it. The backlighting makes it the easiest to use of all the electronic sudoku games I have tried, and haveing 2 modes (one that shows you a wrong answer) is great. I play this before bed or in the dark when I am outside on my balcony at night...absolutely love it. My dad gave it to me for Christmas that year...and this year he is getting one for his birthday! lol

HT-ZS11 - ZOpid Electronic Sudoku with Touch Screen and Back Light

Customer feedback:

1. I really liked this ELECTRONIC SUDOKU game. The screen is easy to read thanks to the backlight. The only thing that I don't like is the very high sensitivity of the screen: you barely touch it, and you might end up selecting a game of a difficulty level that does not suit you.

2. Considering the cost of Sudoku puzzle books, the price is a good deal. It has a few places where you really have to push and push to get the number in the square. The instructions could be better. Scoring is a bit strange, and your stuck with a puzzle once you start it. But, over all, it is a handy toy. The backlight is good, and the size and shape are nice on the hands. Gives three levels of difficulity, hints, answers, and pause button. Have enjoyed the entertainment.

Excalibur NY21 The New York Times Deluxe Touch Screen Crosswords

Customer feedback:

1. I bought this for my husband for his birthday. It is alot of fun to use and has great features. Perfect for use at home or while traveling.
The puzzles are quite challenging - even the 'easy' level and if you want to, it is easy to cheat - answers are just a click away.

2. I bought the NY Times electronic crossword puzzle for my eighty year old grandmother who is always carrying around the paper crossword puzzles. She thought it was a great concept, but it took three of us to figure out the easy level crosswords! I can't imagine the higher levels of difficulty on this little machine! My grandmother said she was used to having a crossword puzzle that already had some letters in the boxes to help here solve the puzzles quicker and easier. Overall, it is a good product and if you have a problem solving one of the crosswords, you can push a button and it will solve it for you! I would recommend it because it is a great brain exerciser!

Xbox 360 Console

Xbox 360 sets a new pace for digital entertainment. More than just a cutting-edge game system, Xbox 360 also integrates high-definition video, DVD movie playback, digital music, photos, and online connectivity into one sleek, small tower.
Xbox 360 is much smaller than its predecessor--it measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor 10 MB of embedded DRAM. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games in standard TV definition, and even better thanks to built-in support for HDTV 1080i televisions. It also supports the widescreen 16:9 format.
The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage this console package includes a 120GB hard drive. Along with storing files, the hard drive will make the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with part of the existing Xbox game library.

Xbox 360 Console

Product Features
Edition: Elite 120GB w/ Kung Fu Panda and Indiana Jones

* Premium black finish
* 120GB hard drive
* Sleek black finish wireless controller
* HDMI lets you get HD video (up to 1080p)
* Includes 2 games - LEGO Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda

Customer feedback:

1. For me, new owner, the first thing was the large 120gb HDD. I'm a moderately hardcore gamer, and don't want to have to think twice about space left on my hard drive. However, now there is the 60gb version which should be great for most people. But if you look at the price of the 120gb HDD alone ($150), the Elite is a much better deal.
The HDMI output was the second major deciding factor for me as I wanted the best possible picture from my games and movies. Plus my TV has more HDMI ports than component cable connections.
Also, right now the Xbox Live network is by far the strongest online gaming network. The others might and probably will catch up in the future, but right now Xbox live is the top online gaming network. So being able to play online with family and friends right now was important. Not many people have a PS3, which means that A: play games offline, or online by yourself; or B: make new online friends in a small gaming network. I chose the Xbox.

2. Overall, the system is great--they did much better this time around when compared to the original Xbox. There are tons of great games, and you can download all kinds of demos, stream Netflix movies, and harass your friends online. I do have a few qualms though, which are mostly related to the greediness that I perceive Microsoft to have. I was really excited about the fact that the Wii had a built in wireless networking card (though the online options for that system are scant at best). Nonetheless, I thought that it was a great move, particularly having grown up in the time of the original Nintendo that came packaged with a few controllers, a light gun, the system, all of the necessary cables and a couple of games. That was awesome, just to be able to get the basic package and have an awesome time with it out of the box without having to drop a few hundred dollars more. While this bundle aimed to do this to a degree, it fell short in a few other ways: I had to drop $90 on a wireless network adapter, another $36 on a second controller, $40 on an Xbox Live membership, etc. Sure, I'm a big boy, and I make enough money to buy my own toys now, but I had to spend more than $150 beyond the cost of this bundle just to be able to play with friends (both locally and remotely).

Hexoku.org

Something different, but looks similar. If you have tried Sudoku, here is something that looks similar - called Hexoku.org

Hexoku uses the hexadecimal (hex) numeral system (with a base of 16).
It uses sixteen distinct symbols: 0-9 to represent values zero to nine and
A, B, C, D, E, F to represent values ten to fifteen.
The rules are simple:
- enter digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F into the blank spaces.
- every row, column and 4x4 square must contain one of each symbol.
- you can change the puzzle difficulty by selecting easy, medium or hard

It's entirely up to you to figure out how he's going to find that pig and get it back home. Along the way, you'll get to discover a lost underground shrine, solve a few puzzles, practice your conversational skills, and maybe even learn a thing or two about alchemy. So enjoy the ride!

GeoGames - A game that teaches geography

“GeoGames” is a free online game that teaches geography concepts in a fun, interactive way.

In 2003, Reach the World and Dr. Susan Lowes of Teachers College, Columbia University set out to study the question, “How do children gain their understanding of world geography?” Three years later, with the sponsorship of the National Geographic Education Foundation, Reach the World began to build GeoGames.

GeoGames is based on the findings of Dr. Lowes’ research. GeoGames teaches geography in an entirely new way, focusing on cognitive concepts such as spatial relationships (where the continents are in relation to each other and to the oceans), nesting (how a city is a unit within a country, a country is a unit within a continent, &etc.), and how countries, continents and oceans have vastly different sizes (scale). GeoGames offers all teachers the chance to teach geography in an entirely new, more deeply cognitive and fun way.
