Photo Blog: Machinery digging up part of the green hillside for making a road

Machinery digging up part of the green hillside for making a road in Switzerland
A bulldozer digging up a beautiful Swiss mountainside on the route to Jungfrau, for making a path. The picture looks beautiful, but it was a bit sad to see a green hill being partially destroyed.

Ice and snow covered rocky peaks at Jungfrau in Switzerland
A view of the rocky cliff visible from the mountain resort of Jungfrau in Switzerland, giving a glimpse of very cold weather and deep snow. However, on this same snow, we could spot people going for guided treks at intervals.

Photo: Greenish tinge from the sculptures inside the Ice Palace in Jungfrau

Greenish tinge from the sculptures inside the Ice Palace in Jungfrau
These are sculptures made of ice inside the Ice Palace (ice tunnel) at the Swiss mountain resort of Jungfrau. Varied sculptures, they looked very beautiful with a greenish tinge all around (the light being greenish because of the ice all around us). I always wondered as to how they ensure that the ice remains, and if this tunnel is a part of a glacier, how can they ensure that there is no movement of the ice.

Photo Blog: Empty tunnel inside the Ice Palace at Jungfrau

Empty tunnel inside the Ice Palace at Jungfrau
The empty ice tunnel inside the ice palace at Jungfrau. This is an ice tunnel apparently built inside a glacier in Jungfrau, and is a popular tourist attraction. I had to wait for some time to be able to get a photo where there was no one in the photo. The ice (and it was several inches thick) gives a strange light effect to the photo.

Cramped conditions inside the cogwheel train in the final leg to Jungfrau in Switzerland
People inside the cramped compartment of the train heading to Jungfrau. This is the final train (there are a total of 3 trains that you need to take, one after the other), and it can get fairly cramped. This train is the one that moves inside the mountain, on the cogwheel tracks, and through the rock and ice.

Cogwheel train halting at the Eiger station in the tunnel leading to Jungfrau in Switzerland
The train halting at the Eiger station in the tunnel leading to Jungfrau in Switzerland. This is the final section of the journey, and this is the 3rd train. This section is a cogwheel train, with the train passing through a tunnel built through the rock of the mountain. The area outside the tunnel is all ice and snow.

Caprice hotel and restaurant on the way to Jungfrau, as visible from the train
A view of the Caprice restaurant and hotel, as visible from the train heading towards Jungfrau. The structure was separated by a metal fence from the train track, but was otherwise very close.

Photo: Inside the Ice Palace tunnel in Jungfrau, Switzerland

Blurred photo inside the Ice Palace tunnel in Jungfrau, Switzerland
A photo inside the Ice Palace tunnel in the mountain resort of Jungfrau in Switzerland. It has a tunnel built inside the glacier, with ice all around. The place looks beautiful inside, with light getting reflected through the ice and all around. It was a bit slippery though, and there was a feeling that what happens if the glacier suddenly decides to move.

Blackbird perched on the railing overlooking glacier at Jungfrau

Blackbird perched on the railing overlooking glacier at Jungfrau at Switzerland
At the mountain resort of Jungfraujoch, you see a place that has been built among snow and ice, with glaciers nearby. In fact, you can actually walk on a glacier, and is great fun (although a bit slippery). There is also a metal observation platform built over a height (and you can see the drop below the metal mesh), where black birds come to sit.

Blackbird balancing on one leg at Jungfrau

Blackbird balancing on one leg at Jungfrau against white ice in Switzerland
A black bird against the white ice on the ice at Jungfrau in Switzerland. Jungfrau is a resort in the midst of ice and glaciers, and you can find a number of black birds over here. They sit on the metal of one of the observation platforms.

Beautiful setting of the town of Wengen from train to Jungfrau

Beautiful setting of the town of Wengen from train to Jungfrau in Switzerland
The train journey to Jungfrau passed through greenery, and through semi-urban areas. This is a photo of the town of Wengen on the route to Jungfrau from Interlaken, where you can see greenery, buildings, and hills from within the train (you can see the reflection of light off the glass of the train windows)

View of snow capped mountains on the way up to Jungfrau

View of snow capped mountains on the way up to Jungfrau from Interlaken in Switzerland
A great view of the snow / ice covered mountains while on the way to the Swiss mountain resort of Jungfrau high in the mountains. You can see the quick transition, where the hills in front are covered with greenery, while the mountains at the back are covered with ice and snow.

View of mountains on the other side of the valley

The view of the green covered hills and the valley while on the train journey from Interlaken to the mountain resort in Jungfrau. The view at many points in this journey in Switzerland is spectacular.

View of the red tourist area and yellow private areas of the Jaipur City Palace
This photo shows the 2 separate sections of the Jaipur City Palace; you can see both the public section of the structure in red sandstone finish, and the yellow private section of the palace.

Pigeons sitting on the various bars of the Jaipur City Palace

Pigeons sitting on the various bars of the Jaipur City Palace
Such a beautiful structure, and there are pigeons all over. Their droppings slowly cause decay of the carvings of the structure, even though they are interesting to look, and make great photographs.

A view of tourists coming in through the arch distinctive shaped gate that separates the compound of the palace from the rest of Jaipur.

Pigeons crowding the top of a structure inside the Jaipur City Palace

Pigeons crowding the top of a structure inside the Jaipur City Palace
Pigeons crowding the top of the central structure inside the Jaipur City Palace. Even through kids like to see so many pigeons, they cause a lot of problems to the maintenance of such structures. Their shit cause a lot of cleanliness problem, they attract larger predators, and their droppings are acidic in nature.

Another view of the structure inside the Jaipur City Palace

Another view of the structure inside the Jaipur City Palace
The photo is of a building that I have covered already, a different view of the central structure inside the Jaipur City Palace. This is a straight view, with the light blue sky in the background, and a few people in the foreground in front of the structure.

A number of pigeons flying in the blue sky over the Jaipur City Palace. Also visible in the photo are sections of green trees and part of the building of the palace.
