Hindi TV Serial - Khatron Ke Khiladi Part 2 / Level 2 - Action continues

This year, the second version of Khatron Ke Khiladi has some great stunts. The show takes place in South Africa with 14 Indian divas (TV actresses, models, etc) along with their selected ordinary male companions. The host for the show that appears on Colors is Akshay Kumar, and the contestants have to undergo a variety of stunts. If the stunt requires only one person, then it is the lady who has to do the stunt, and if the stunt requires 2 people, then it is both who participate. The stunts typically involve activities dealing with water, being up in the air somewhere, animals, etc. As an example, one of the stunts involved being able to withstand octopus in the same helmet as the lady, with water inside the helmet, and the lady has to remove the screws holding the helmet together. The one who did so in the least possible time wins.
Akshay can be encouraging when he feels that the lady is overcoming some internal problems, such as when somebody is afraid of going under water, or afraid of dealing with an animal, or similar problem.
At the same time, Akshay can scold the contestants very thoroughly if he feels that they are not giving their best, and has done so many times. In each show, there are 2 stunts, and Akshay gives one or more of the teams a yellow banner if they are the best in the first stunt, so that they do not have to do the second stunt. Afsha Musani now has a competition. Her Identical named Laado is often asked the obvious question “tum kya Afsha ho?”. Laado is from Gorakhpur and looks pretty similar to Afsha. Thanks to Afsha, even she has become pretty famous due to her uncanny resemblance to Afsha. When she made an appearance in the episode, Abhijeet da and Dhairya nearly fainted. “ ek Afsha kam thi kya, ki abhi do do Afsha leke aa gaye…”.

Real Afsha was l’il worried though. “ ye kya ho raha hai… ye Afsha nahi hai… main Afsha hoon “

But the bak bak machine Afsha Musani is really one piece on this earth and no one can match her histrionics! God just made one mould and broke it!

Salman Khan the DID season 1 winner makes an appearance in Saregamapa L’il Champs to promote his video in the movie ‘Wanted’ which he shot with superstar Salman Khan. The movie is releasing this Friday 18th September and Salman is anxious as this video might be his stepping stone towards the filmdom.

Salman came and spoke about his video and his experience with superstar Salman and the dancing genius Prabhu Deva who is the director of the movie.
He also announced the come back of Dance India Dance Season 2 and taught little Afsha and Dhairya how to shake a leg and groove that thing…





The viewers also are waiting with bated breath for DID season 2 - a frenzy that caught the Nation wild and tempted the audiences to put on their dancing shoes.

Hindi TV Serial - Zee Lil champs - Abhijeet and Bappi Da Make up

After 3 long years, the two bong rivals finally kiss and make up on the coveted stage of Saregamapa L’il Champs

The atmosphere was buzzing with electrifying music of yesteryears. The foot tapping tunes of ‘Jawani Janeman’ and ‘ yaad aa raha hai tera pyaar’. Bappi da, the original Disco King quite surprisingly agreed to share the stage with his one time arch rival Abhijeet Bhattacharya. The ardent viewers of Saregamapa would remember that three years back on the very same stage of l’il champs Abhijeet da and Bappi da had a major tussle about one contestant called Diwakar Sharma.
For the uninitiated, Diwakar was a blind child for whom Bappi da had a big soft corner. He used to appeal to people to vote for him as he was an exceptional child. Whereas, Abhijeet da’s favourite was Sanchita who ultimately went on to win the crown. Abhijeet da was dead against Bappi da’s extra fondness for Diwakar. He pleaded people not to get carried away with biases and vote for the best voice.
This led to huge hostilities between the two; so much so that both started abusing each other in public. It was also rumored that Bappa Lahiri ( bappi da’s son ) had gone up to the extent of hiring goons and threatening Abhijeet da with dire consequences.



After years of back lashing and back biting, finally both the musicians decided to bury the hatchet and start afresh. All this was possible thanks to L’il Champs.
Bappi da had some fond memories of the past and he was all gung ho about the current one as well. He announced, “ I’ll give one my gold chains to the best singer of the day”. And the winner was none other than Hemant Brijwasi from Mathura who wooed the disco king with the song yaar bina chain kahan re…” Bappi da was so very impressed with the little one’s tonal quality that he adjudged him as the best singer of the day and gave him one of his gold chains.

Abhijeet the gave Bappi da a bouquet of white flowers to make amends and Bappi da accepted it quite graciously. Both of them praised each other for their contribution to the music industry and their body of work..

What shall we say, all’s well that ends well..!

Hindi Serial - Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao - What was Kashmira doing there ?

Ever since Kashmira was given a part in the reality show Big Boss, where one could see her bringing drama, gossip, and conflict to the serial, it was interesting to see where else she would use that tactic. Especially, since she did not seem to be doing much of TV or movies. And then, she came in for some time towards the ending parts of the jungle reality show called 'Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao', and proceeded to shake the show by instigating the people, and trying to provoke more conflict, as well as show a lot of skin.
It seemed clear that her purpose in entering the show was to add more drama and masala to the show, and it seems that she did that. In an interview after the show, the only regrets that Kashmira had was about getting stuck in the jungle without any contact with the outside world (something that she would have seen even in Big Boss earlier).

Kashmera does not have too many kind words for most of her other contestants, claiming that there was a lot of competition, much more than was depicted on the show, that Aman was trying to sleep his way towards the winning position, about how Mona Wasu would rarely take a bath, and so on. She calls Jay Bhanushali a loser and a wimp.

Hindi Serial: Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao - the last week

Now, we are in the last week of 'Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao', and there are just 4 participants left in the serial. For the past several weeks, it would seem that the serial is bent to put more exposure, more fight, and more scare tactics in the show. First, the show separated the male and female participants and made them compete against each other. There were lots of fights in the show, with Akash Sehgal being the worst element in these shows. He used bad language with abandon, tried to portray all the female participants in a bad light, and considered himself superior to the others.
Anaida and Mona Wasu were the ones who fought the most with Akash, although they also fought with Chetan, and a few others on occasion. The show made participants do a lot of things that seem pretty horrible such as cooking insects, rats, and other such creatures on an open flame and then making the male and female contestants contest to see who would eat the fastest. In other contests, the participants would have to withstand time while all sorts of creepy crawlies such as rats, cockroaches, wasps, ants, scorpions, frogs, etc were raining on them, or were all around their legs, heads, or bodies. Takes a lot of courage to do that.
Many participants came and left during the course of the show, with Nigar Khan being there for very little time, Marc and Aman were there from the beginning and then were finally evicted. Kashmira Shah came for some time, did a lot of gossiping, strutted around in a bikini, and then finally left. Jay Bhanushali came in, got overawed by Akash and Chetan, and finally left. Mika came in for a short time, and so did Chitrashi. In the end, the following four are left:

Hindi Serials: MTV Roadies: A hugely popular reality show

MTV Roadies is a long running show on the Indian music channel MTV. The show is a reality contest that believes in subjecting the contestants to many contests and tests, getting them to fight each other and compete strongly with one another. It is exceedingly popular, and has a dedicated audience who try to view each episode when the show is running. The show has had 6 seasons so far, and the interesting thing was the change in presenters. The first show had the presenter being Cyrus Sahukar, but from the second season, the winner of the first show, Rannvijay Singh Singha, has hosted the show from the second season onwards.
The first 4 seasons were held in India, with the 5th season going abroad, being held in India, Thailand, Malaysia, and the 6th season was held Down Under, in Australia and India. The show is created by Raghu Ram, and they also do the interviews to select the participants on the show, with Raghu and his twin, Rajiv Laxman, doing the interviewing. They have been known to reduce cocky contestants to being nervous, asking people all sorts of questions, humiliating them, and so on.
The people participating on the show are provided with bikes, and asked to go onto a known route. In between, they are asked to perform on many challengers, some of which can seem very difficult, or even yucky. For example, I saw one round where the male contestants where strapped to ropes in an upright position, and then a stick came and whacked their balls. In other tests, contestants had to eat all sorts of horrid stuff, and so on. At the end of each episode, one contestant is voted out.

Hindi Serial: Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao - New people added

Looks like the competition in Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao just got tougher. Other reality shows such as Big Boss do add people from time to time as wild card entries, but over time the number of people in the show does reduce.

Now, all of a sudden, 3 new people have joined the show, all of them wearing red shirts. These are Jay Bhanushali (TV actor), Komal Chautala (Chak De), and Mike Singh (singer). Now the show has been set with these 2 teams opposite each other, and they have Aman and Chetan on their side versus the others. Now the teams will contest against each other, cook separately, and so on. For Chetan and Aman, they will suddenly have to contest against people who were all part of the same team earlier.

Hindi Serials: Rakhi ka Swayamwar - Elesh is the guy

So, the day of reckoning finally arrived; no more will we see more episodes of Rakhi Ka Swayamwar, and no more will we see assorted handsome guys proclaiming that they are truly in love with Rakhi and admire her.
On a long episode, atleast 2 hours, Rakhi finally made her choice, and it is the NRI from Ontario, Canada - Elesh. The show had the 3 finalists coming in full spendour (with almost groom dressing), and then had a whole host of TV celebrities coming on who all spoke to the camera. Then we had much small talk with the finalists, and then Rakhi arrived. She looked okay, but I have to say that her dressing was not like most brides I have seen, she showed far more skin that they do in normal Hindu weddings.
Rakhi spent a lot of time debating, doing a prayer on stage along with some of her friends, and then finally picked Elesh by putting the flowers around his neck. However, as expected, even though they said they could do the actual marriage festivities right now, they wanted to spend time to know each other, which means that there remains a chance that the marriage will not happen later.
The last episode (today's show) was live.

Hindi Serial - Rakhi ka Swayamwar on its last legs - Marriage on Aug 2nd

Finally the spectacle seems to be getting over. There is a lot of speculation that Rakhi will do something to avoid getting married, including declaring in the end that she does not like any of these grooms and does not want to get married to any of them. In addition, it is very much possible that the prospective groom also realizes that some publicity is not enough to actually get married to Rakhi. Anyhow, the serial is in its last few days, with the marriage supposed to happen on the 2nd of August, 2009.
The show started with a huge number of people signing up, and then being whittled down to a field of 10. From these 10, Rakhi would evaluate them on various parameters, including how they walked over hot coals for her, whether they could bear having her name tattoed on their hand. A few of them were obvious publicity seekers, such as this guy called Manmohan who was there till the last 4, but who was probably a bigger drama-seeker than Rakhi. As the number of people reduced, Rakhi also met their families, went to their home towns, had live dates with them, and so on. But you could see her drama everywhere.
Now, it is down to 3, with the hot favorite being Elesh (from Canada, willing to settle down in Mumbai).

Hindi Serial - Shweta Tiwari out of Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao

Her wish to live in the jungle did not last for the full 2 months that she had initially signed up for. Shweta Tiwary was missing her daughter, and apparently finding that life in the jungle was not as easy as she thought it would be. There were animals nearby (apparently the unit saw a big snake recently); her experience in the game in the coffin with frogs would not have been too good; she was also critical of the rude behavior of Akash. Eventually, on the show on the 27th of July, she quickly packed her stuff and left after bidding a goodbye to the rest of the team. Even exiting from the jungle is not so easy. She had to walk in water, across another section of the jungle, and then in fast boat till she much have reached some form of civilization.
Another new celebrity entered the jungle at around the same time, and this was the the hot Nigar Khan, who had been deported from India a few years back. She cannot come to India for such a show because of visa problems, but since the show was being held in Malaysia, she could take part in the show over there.

Hindi Serials - Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao - Not very exciting

In this age of reality shows all over, Sony Entertainment Television copied another reality show appearing outside (called 'I'm a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here!') India, and setup the local equivalent called Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bacha0 (Starting from 13th July, 2009 at 10pm. Mon-Thurs at 10pm & Fri 9pm for 1 hour). The show took 10 celebrities to a jungle in Malaysia, and makes them live there without the usual comforts (and most of them are people who either needed the glamour, or who are without much work). They are forced to do tasks over there that can seem pretty horrible:
- such as being forced to spend minutes in a coffin with water coming in and 60 frogs provide company (Shweta Tiwari)
- having a glass helmet over one's head while different insects and other creepy crawlies (snakes, scorpions) are also in the same helmet (Akash)
- having to break pots to get the stars hidden inside the pots while the pots contain vile animal stuff, and so on
If they complete such tasks successfully, then they earn food.



Every contestant gets a handful of rice and some soyabean for food every three days, which is clearly not enough for survival. Therefore, they must participate in various physically challenging contests and win "food credits" for themselves and their team members. Each day, the team must nominate one participant to play in the day's contest and be the so-called bread-winner for that day.
Audiences can vote for their contestants and people have started getting nominated for eviction, with Chand Fiza Mohammed becoming evicted after losing a contest with Anaida.

Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao contestants walk out of the show! (A reality show that has been scheduled to last for two months saw 8 of the 10 celebrities on Sony Television's Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao have walked out of the show. It seems this came after Akashdeep Saigal, a contestant on the show, performed a task called 'Fill your Face' where he had to put his face into a jar filled with snakes, meal worms and bugs. When Akashdeep returned to the camp, his face was swollen after being bitten by the bugs. The incident shook the rest of the contestants and eight of them reportedly decided to walk out of the show, and came back only after talking to the contestants)

Hindi Serial - Sach Ka Samna on Star Plus - Face the truth

Sach Ka Saamna is a new show on Star Plus, with the aim of asking real hard questions on national TV to people, who will answer such questions in the hope of making a cool Rs. 1 crore. This show is the Indian version of the international reality show, 'The Moment of Truth (wikipedia)', and revels in asking a huge number of questions that test the person's ability to answer truthfully. The show started on July 15th, and runs on Star Plus weekdays at 10:30 - 11 PM. The show is hosted by Rajiv Khandelwal. The show features a combination of celebrities and normal people, with the first person on the show being Smitha Mithai, followed by actor Yusuf Hussain, and ex-cricketer Vinod Kambli.



The show is literally equivalent to opening up yourself in public. People are put in front of their families and friends and asked whether they have betrayed them, or felt anything for their family, or even more direct questions related to their sexual habits (such as a contestant being asked whether he had sex with a girl younger than his daughter). One shudders to think as to how long this show will go on before questions and outrage in Parliament will force a crackdown.
The show has contestants appearing in front of a polygraph (lie detector machine) and being asked 50 questions. This happens behind the scenes. When the participant appears on the show, they are asked 21 of these questions in increasing order of hardness and as they proceed successfully, the amount they earn increases until they reach the sum of Rs. 1 crore. However, if they answer a question incorrectly (if the polygraph judges the answer to be incorrect), they lose all the money they have earned. They can withdraw before the question is asked.

Hindi Serials: India's Got Talent on Colors TV

There are contests on various TV channels, dealing with dance, music, acting, action, stunts, and so on. Some of them could get quite crazy, such as the MTV Roadies, and Splittsvila; now Colors has come up with the Indian adaption of the Got Talent series. The show started on Colors TV on June 27, 2009. The show has been shown as a platform to depict the entire range of talent that people in India have, including such stuff as Music, dance, mimicry, puppetry, magic, anything at all that would enthrall people. The judges for the show are actress Sonali Bendre, Bollywood director Shekhar Kapoor and Veteran actress Kirron Kher. Hosts are Roshni Chopra,Nikhil Chinnappa and Ayushmann Khurana.
Some of the performances do make you wonder as to how people are able to do them, and how long they have been practicing them.

The kind of talent that will be showcased on the show will include:

The original show debuted in America in June 2006 and since then has successfully completed a couple of seasons. India will be the first Asian country to showcase this format show

Hindi Serial - Rakhi Ka Swayamwar on NDTV Imagine - finally the spectacle started

With a whole host of new reality programs having started on TV, the quest to make something different drives television programming. When you combine this quest with a weird personality such as Rakhi Sawant, who would like nothing better than to create a new sensation, you get the idea of having a Swayamwar for Rakhi. To tell the truth, my stomach turned over when I first saw the TV ads, since I do not particularly like Rakhi. However, I am trying to be objective when I write this, and purely from a reality show basis, the mission of trying to get a girl married off through a reality show is about as exciting as a reality show could be (although I am not convinced that Rakhi will eventually marry the person at the end of the show).
The show asked for people to send in their applications (the show announced that 12,000 people sent in their nominations), and after screening and further review, the list was shortened down to 16 people (view the 16 contestants on this link). The show is being hosted by Ram Kapoor (from Zee TV's Saat Phere), and is being hosted at Fateh Garh Palace, Udaipur. The costumes are splendid. However, when I asked around as to how many people enjoyed the show, majority opinion out of 10 people was that they found the show boring (they found the first day boring), so maybe the excitement will improve as we move onto more episodes.
Each week, the grooms will be put through tasks that will test their personality, character; physical fitness, talent and also their compatibility with Rakhi. Additionally, Rakhi will be joined by a host of her celebrity friends for certain tasks, who will help her make her decision. In keeping with tradition, Rakhi will also visit the homes of the prospective grooms to get to know their families better. All through the series, viewers will help Rakhi decide, by voting for or against the prospective bridegrooms.

Hindi Serial - Dus ka Dum 2 - second part of the game show on Sony

Dus ka Dum was a game show started in 2008 (to compete with the Star Plus Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar on Colors), and starred Salman Khan as a show which allowed its contestants to quickly scale upto an amount of Rs. 10 crore very quickly, once by eliminating the contender, and then answering 5 questions within a required percentage scale to get upto the top prize. The show also had a large number of celebrities taking part, thus making the show more attractive.
Dus Ka Dum 2 is the second season for the show, and it started on May 30, with Salman Khan as the hosts and a range of celebrities gracing the show and contesting. So far, we have had:
Kareena Kapoor (defeated her sister Karishma) and won Rs. 10,00,000
Daler Mehndi (defeated his brother Mika) and won Rs. 1,00,000
Darsheel Safary won over other child stars (Tanay Chheda & Azhar) and won Rs. 1,00,000
Katrina Kaif (well awaited, the girl friend of Salman came with co-star of New York Neil Nitin Mukesh for promotion of their film).
